Welcome to the Welfare Department!
The Welfare Department is dedicated to ensuring the well-being, support, and care of all students and staff at Kuja Special School for the Deaf. We provide emotional, social, and material support during times of need.
📋 Our Three Core Areas:
1. 🤝 Bereavement & Sickness (Headed by Mr. Owino)
- Coordinating visits to grieving families and sick members
- Organizing financial and material support for affected families
- Arranging funeral attendance and representation
- Providing counseling and emotional support during loss
- Following up on sick students and staff admitted in hospitals
- Mobilizing welfare contributions from staff and stakeholders
- Preparing condolence messages and support letters
2. 🍽️ Lunch Program (MD Jane, Mds. Dorothy, Md. Millicent)
- Overseeing daily lunch preparation and serving
- Ensuring nutritious, balanced meals for all students and staff
- Managing food supplies and kitchen inventory
- Maintaining hygiene and cleanliness in the dining area
- Catering for special dietary needs of learners
- Coordinating with kitchen staff for timely meal service
- Monitoring portion sizes and reducing food wastage
3. 🏠 Home Visitation (Mr. Ila, Everline Omollo)
- Conducting home visits to students' families
- Assessing home environment and family needs
- Following up on absenteeism and school dropouts
- Building strong school-parent relationships
- Identifying vulnerable learners for support programs
- Reporting on family challenges affecting student performance
- Encouraging parental involvement in school activities
🎯 Our Objectives:
- To provide compassionate support during bereavement and sickness
- To ensure every learner receives a nutritious lunch daily
- To maintain strong home-school connections through visits
- To identify and support vulnerable students and families
- To promote a caring and supportive school community
- To coordinate welfare contributions and distribution
- To respond promptly to welfare emergencies
🏆 Achievements:
- Supported over 50 families during bereavement in 2024
- Visited and supported 30+ sick students and staff
- Provided daily lunch to 200+ students consistently
- Conducted 100+ home visits in the past year
- Reintegrated 15 dropout students back to school
- Established a welfare fund for emergency support
- Improved school-parent relationships significantly
⚠️ Challenges We Face:
- Limited welfare funds to support all needy cases
- Some families live in remote, hard-to-reach areas
- Inadequate transport for home visits and bereavement support
- High demand for lunch program with limited food supplies
- Need for more counseling support for grieving families
- Some students come to school without eating breakfast
🔮 Our Future Plans:
- Establish a stronger welfare fund through partnerships
- Acquire a dedicated vehicle for home visits and welfare support
- Expand lunch program to include breakfast for all learners
- Train more staff on grief counseling and psychosocial support
- Create a database of vulnerable students for targeted support
- Strengthen partnerships with community organizations
- Organize regular parent engagement forums
