The Boarding Department at Kuja Special School for the Deaf provides a safe, secure, and nurturing home away from home for our learners. We understand that a conducive boarding environment is essential for the academic, emotional, and social development of children with hearing impairments. Our boarding facilities are designed to provide learners with comfort, care, and the opportunity to grow in an environment that promotes discipline, independence, responsibility, and mutual respect. Every learner entrusted to our care is treated with dignity, compassion, and love, ensuring that they feel safe and valued throughout their stay at the school.
Our boarding section comprises three dormitories: Dorm A, Dorm B, and Dorm C. Dorm A is reserved for our girls and is uniquely designed with several cubicles to provide learners with privacy, comfort, and an organized living environment. The remaining dormitories accommodate other learners while ensuring orderly arrangements that promote cleanliness, healthy interaction, and proper supervision. The school continuously strives to maintain a boarding environment that supports both personal growth and academic success.
The increasing enrolment of learners at Kuja Special School for the Deaf has brought about new challenges within the boarding section. The number of available beds is no longer sufficient to accommodate the growing student population comfortably. This shortage places pressure on the existing facilities and highlights the urgent need for additional beds, mattresses, lockers, and other boarding equipment. Expanding the boarding facilities will enable every learner to enjoy a comfortable and dignified living space that supports their well-being.
In addition to increasing bed capacity, the existing dormitories require renovation and modernization. Some sections of the buildings need repairs to improve their structural condition, ventilation, sanitation, lighting, and overall comfort. Upgrading the boarding facilities will create a healthier and more conducive environment for learners while ensuring that the school continues to meet the standards required for a modern special needs institution. These improvements, however, require significant financial investment and support from stakeholders, partners, well-wishers, and friends of the school.
The safety and welfare of our learners remain our highest priority. As a school serving children with special needs, we have put in place measures to ensure that learners are protected at all times while in the boarding section. Regular supervision, clear routines, proper hygiene practices, guidance and counselling, and emergency preparedness form part of our commitment to providing a secure environment. We believe that when learners feel safe and cared for, they develop confidence, peace of mind, and the ability to excel academically and socially.
The Boarding Department is managed by four dedicated teachers who oversee the welfare, discipline, guidance, and daily well-being of our boarders. Working alongside them are three committed dormitory attendants (support staff) who provide essential day-to-day care by maintaining cleanliness, assisting learners, and ensuring that the dormitories remain orderly and welcoming. Together, these members of staff work tirelessly to create a caring family environment where every learner receives the attention, support, and encouragement they deserve.
As Kuja Special School for the Deaf continues to grow, we remain committed to improving our boarding facilities and the quality of care we provide. We appeal to the Government, development partners, corporate organizations, alumni, parents, well-wishers, and friends of the school to support the expansion and renovation of our boarding facilities. Every contribution towards additional beds, improved dormitories, better sanitation, and modern boarding amenities is an investment in the safety, comfort, dignity, and future of our learners. Together, we can continue to provide a secure and supportive home where every child is empowered to learn, grow, and realize their full potential.
