📋 About Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD)
The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) has been a cornerstone in advancing quality education at Kuja Comprehensive School for the Deaf. As the national institution mandated to develop and review Kenya's curriculum, KICD ensures that our learners benefit from a relevant, inclusive, and competency-based education that addresses their unique learning needs. Through its expertise, KICD develops the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and the Stage-Based Curriculum for learners with special educational needs, ensuring that children with hearing impairment receive an education that is both accessible and meaningful.
KICD also plays a significant role in building the capacity of our teachers by organizing curriculum implementation training, orientation programmes, workshops, and seminars. These training opportunities equip our educators with the knowledge and skills required to effectively deliver the curriculum, utilize learner-centered teaching approaches, integrate Kenyan Sign Language into instruction, and assess learners appropriately. This continuous professional development has greatly enhanced the quality of teaching and learning at our school.
Working closely with the Ministry of Education, KICD facilitates the provision of approved textbooks, teachers' guides, digital learning resources, and other curriculum support materials that are essential for effective teaching. These resources enable our teachers to implement the curriculum with confidence while ensuring that learners have access to quality instructional materials that enrich their educational experience and improve learning outcomes.
