About Jared
Mr. Jared Otieno Osome joined Kuja Primary School for the Deaf in 1984, a decision that renewed his hope in education. Unlike his struggles in regular schools where he couldn't grasp anything, Kuja provided an environment where teachers used Kenyan Sign Language (KSL). Though he struggled for the first three months, he eventually mastered both receptive and expressive skills in KSL.
He completed his primary education in 1989 and was privileged to be among the pioneers to start Kuja Special Secondary School for the Deaf in 1990, marking another historic milestone in the school's journey.
By God's grace, Jared became the first student from Kuja (both primary and secondary) to become a trained teacher. He trained as a P1 Teacher at Machakos Teachers Training College and graduated in 1997. To date, he has taught in three different schools for the Deaf: Kuja Primary School, Lambwe Christian Primary School, and currently at St. Sylus Nyarongi Special School for the Deaf.
