The Humanities Department is dedicated to nurturing well-rounded, compassionate, and informed citizens. We believe that understanding human society, culture, history, and values is essential for personal growth and responsible citizenship.

🎯 Our Objectives:
- To help learners understand their cultural heritage and national identity
- To develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- To promote moral values, ethics, and responsible citizenship
- To foster respect for diversity and different cultures
- To prepare learners to participate actively in community development
- To integrate Kenyan Sign Language in all humanities subjects for deaf learners
📖 Teaching Methods:
Our department uses visual aids, maps, timelines, documentaries, field trips, and group discussions to make humanities subjects accessible and engaging for learners with hearing impairment. We incorporate Kenyan Sign Language as the primary language of instruction alongside written materials.
🏆 Achievements:
- Students have represented the school in county and national history competitions
- Established a school museum corner showcasing local artifacts and cultural items
- Organized educational trips to historical sites (Fort Jesus, Kisumu Museum, Gede Ruins)
- Conducted community mapping and environmental conservation projects
- Produced visually adapted learning materials for deaf learners
⚠️ Challenges We Face:
- Lack of adequate visual teaching aids (maps, charts, models)
- Limited access to documentaries and films with sign language interpretation
- High cost of educational field trips for all students
- Shortage of adapted textbooks and reference materials for deaf learners
- Need for more training on integrating KSL in humanities subjects
🔮 Our Future Plans:
- Develop a fully illustrated humanities textbook for deaf learners
- Establish a school heritage club to promote cultural awareness
- Partner with museums and cultural centers for inclusive programs
- Create a digital resource bank of sign language interpreted history lessons
- Organize annual humanities symposium and exhibitions
- Introduce model United Nations (MUN) for students to practice debating skills
