🐄 Dairy Farming

Dairy farming is an important component of our vocational and agricultural programs at Kuja School. The project provides fresh and nutritious milk that contributes to the health and well-being of our students while reducing the school's expenditure on dairy products.

Through dairy farming, students acquire practical skills in animal husbandry, feeding, milking, hygiene management, record keeping, and farm management. These hands-on experiences prepare them for future employment and self-reliance.

In addition, surplus milk is sold to the local community, generating income that supports school development and student welfare. Dairy farming also produces manure, which is used to improve soil fertility in our crop farming activities, promoting an integrated and sustainable farming system.

Our dedicated dairy team works tirelessly to ensure the health and productivity of our dairy herd. Below are the staff members responsible for the dairy unit:

Our dairy unit follows a structured daily routine to ensure the health, productivity, and welfare of our cows:

• 6:00 AM – Morning feeding and watering
• 6:30 AM – Morning milking session
• 7:00 AM – Record milk production and clean milking equipment
• 9:00 AM – Health check and grooming
• 10:00 AM – Shed cleaning and manure collection
• 12:00 PM – Afternoon feeding and watering
• 2:00 PM – Students practical training session
• 4:00 PM – Evening milking session
• 5:00 PM – Evening feeding and final health check
• 6:00 PM – Record daily production and close dairy unit

• Established a functional dairy unit with 5 dairy cows
• Producing 15+ litres of fresh milk daily
• Trained over 50 students in dairy management skills
• Surplus milk sold to the community generating income
• Manure produced used to fertilize 1 acre of crops
• Reduced school expenditure on dairy products
• Created employment for 5 dedicated staff members

The dairy farming project at Kuja School was established with the vision of providing fresh, nutritious milk to our learners while equipping them with practical agricultural skills. The project started with a small herd of dairy cows, generously supported by well-wishers and the school administration.

Why It Was Started:
